Seasons and Times
“In life nothing is forever, whether it is good things or it is evil things.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”
And one of the good things that we hope for in life, in as much as we are fit and healthy would be our job. We are in a job is for us to meet our obligations to our family, to provides for them as a very basic needs. It is through a good jobs and an enriching career that we can go up the pyramid, to the self-actualisation according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
But because men are created in the image of God, so every human being would also have a spiritual need that can only be fulfilled by God.
” Lu 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”
For my case, I recognize that truly God has been wonderful to me in that He has granted that I was able to have and enjoyed many years of service in the same job and with the same organization. It has been rewarding that He did allowed me a full season right up to the peak of the pyramid.
However as with all things, a day will arrives that will end our current season of laboring and a new season of our life somewhere will begins. That day will come, whether we like it or not or whether we are ready or not, is beyond of our choosing and will.
It will comes in different forms. Some were given short notice, some were not given notice, some with gratuity compensation, some were not, some were given retrenchment benefits to help them tide over while awaiting to secure the next job.
That day came for the moment of truth
And that day finally came for me and many of my colleagues through a cost-cutting head counts retrenchment exercise where many were given the pink slip without any warning to most people who were affected.
As I was more fortunate that the manager in charge of me was a kind man and because he has helped me, I was already pre-informed of that event as I joined many of those who were selected but totally unaware of what is going to befall them.
We went through the “process”. Many were surprised, many were sad, some were stoic, some seemed resign to fate and many were talking, encouraging, and consoling (where needed) . However one very important thing that we cannot miss is this “have we adequately prepared for this moment?” We should all pause and take a moment to reflect on this:
“Do we makes all necessary preparations and prepared ourselves for the event that will and must come? There is such an important life lesson to learn from this episode”
Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. 25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
Between me and the others, (God has helped me in my journey to makes much preparation for this eventual day) it is such that I could face this event, to continue into my new season with no apprehension, fears and the day thereafter is no different than it was the day before. Many around me could tells the difference at this time when that moment of truth is revealed, “have we prepared?”.
A fruitful mango tree with much fruits
With the wisdom given by Him, so along with my job, I have also put in time and much effort to plant many “trees” that will eventually be bearing fruits that I would be able to enjoy and provide for me just as with having a job.
This same principle would applies to the biggest question in life, our final destiny, end of all seasons.
2Peter 1:14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
Will we be inadequately prepared when we put off our tabernacles?
This video of the unexpected (sudden death) happened in the least expected of situation shows us how fragile our life is:

Would we regret that we have not done enough when we have had the opportunity?
Do we make use of every opportunities that were given to us or we have taken things for granted?
Are we blinded by short term pleasure and sacrificing the long term goal?
Would you be going about His business as much as your business?
