“Born-again” Christian

Nothing happened by chance

This all started with a request to book a short stay for the whole family, three adults and two kids, to stay in one of the rooms available for hosting short term stay. And their proposal is for four guests and the husband would be staying behind in their own place, so that the room will not be crammed. He will only visit occasionally.

It was’nt a great idea, so many guests to squeeze into one room but they pleaded and says that they will make do, in their own way. Anyway they really have not much of a choice, finding short term accommodation to move to because there will be major renovation within their house for about two weeks. The kids’ health will be affected if they have to live in during the renovation activities happening because there will be lots of fine dust and other inconveniences.

We met up a few times prior to moving in so that we both understand each other requirements and to answer most of the questions that is in their mind and to know more about all those nitty gritty details from my end.

A Christian sister of her whom she turned to, suggested that she looked up under short term hosting as one possible solution to their problem, so that was how our journey begins. None of their friends are able to offer spare room to tide them through this period of time.

Home is when it is welcoming and friendly

And they literally moved their whole house over as they set up to get themselves comfortably settled in. Along also came their own cooking wares and their own household stuffs. The living room space, the kitchen space and the bathroom space were soon filled up with all their stuffs such there is a homely feel. Another problem was that the younger kid was crying in the late night as she find herself adjusting to strange environment. Not too nice an outcome to end up with as I do have other guests in the same house.

However we do get on quite well as there is some common areas like the wife has an evangelical upbringing since a young age (quite like me as we talked about our background) and her helper is a keen seeker of truths and Christian teachings form the bible vs man’s teaching (those teachings that were not based on scriptures. Nice lovely children, well taught by the wife and the helper who is also related to her. The husband is Christian but Catholic, so he is like thinking that it is sort of the same Christian faith, sort of same belief, of the same God, sort of only if we do not refers back all those teachings, searching it through and comparing it to what the bible actually says.

After their stay, they moved back to their lovely home after the renovation was completed and I do visited them to stay in touch as I then find out that they are just a stone throw away from my house.

The friendship grows with more fellowship

So one evening I did manage to sit down with the husband who is rather busy with his work with lots of travelling and we had a good conversation.

As a Catholic, he has an altar setup in the living room where he has a baby Jesus figurines on this altar, quite similar to traditional Chinese house where they have an altar and some of their deities are set up there to be worshipped. I goggled for baby Jesus figurines image but could not find one that resembled his.

He seems alright with most of the conversation regarding the Christian faith till when I mentioned on the “born again” teaching. My thought is that it is easier to make my point with the “born again” term which is easily understood by most Filipinos as meaning mainstream Evangelical. So to him, the Catholic Christian faith of his is not a different beliefs from other Christians, is believing in the same God, same baby Jesus. Okay, I just had to stopped the biblical sharing and just stay cordial, remaining as a friend then. He is dead set against “born again” teaching, the core of what the Lord Jesus teaches that

“except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). Also except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit (John 3:5-6).”

However we do have more visits to one another homes and fellowship together, for two birthdays celebration, for a Christmas celebration and a Christmas party.

May the mercies and peace of God rests upon this family, and salvation that is found in no other name except by faith in the name of Jesus, be upon the head of this household too.

“Jesus never promise a life that is without trials and tribulations, a road that is strewn with roses and filled with sunshine. But He did promise that He will be with us till the end of times and He will gives us His peace that surpasses all understanding”
(John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world).

“The price has already been paid (on the cross) but the reward is exceedingly great prepared in Heaven for us. Glory to God for these martyrs for their faith”.

During the early church time, for every one of this martyr, thousands would turn to Christ because they were faithful to follow Christ unto death.
